![]() I'd love for any and all help, for if I can't solve it on my own, it'd be great to have as much information as possible to relay to the mechanic. Does this mean the parasitic draw test that I ran was meaningless? Well, in my case, the battery of my Prius was dead and the back hatch was open (since that's where the battery is located so how else are you supposed to access it?). ![]() Could that be affecting the "smart key system" and causing the parasitic drain? I was also just reading a different article that claims that in order to do a parasitic draw test with a multimeter, the car's battery should be fully charged, and all windows and doors should be shut. I responded by switching to the spare key fob, rather than replace the battery itself. For the months prior to this particular issue, I was getting messages from my Prius that the key fob battery was low. The fuse is that of ECU B, with a corresponding ampere of 7.5, and which is responsible for the "smart key system, personal lights, gauges and meters, emergency flashers"-as per the vehicle's manual.Ī couple more *possible* considerations. I then pull each fuse (in the fuse box under the hood) and find that there is one that, when pulled, drops the reading to -0.2A (seems like there still may be an additional drawing source but we'll have to worry about that another time). From there, I test for a parasitic draw using a multimeter which gives me a reading of approximately -2.0A. They suggested that if the problem persists then it is most likely a parasitic drain. I even returned to Pep Boys claiming the new battery they gave me might be no good, but they then ran the necessary tests on it showing me that it is in fact a perfectly good battery. Problem solved! Until the same exact problem persisted with the new battery. ![]() Voila! The battery was totally dead and needed to be replaced. So of course first thing I did was take it in to Pep Boys to have the battery evaluated. Once the keychain has been opened, you will be able to access the battery that is housed inside. Open the key fob by pressing the button labeled release. This button is typically situated in the lower right-hand corner of the fob. I responded by switching to the spare key fob, rather than replace the battery itself. To begin, look on the reverse side of the key fob for a button that says release. The result is the same: I try to turn the car on, to no avail, the battery is dead and needs to be jumped. For the months prior to this particular issue, I was getting messages from my Prius that the key fob battery was low. Though sometimes it is just one, single night. A French proverb very similar to the English version of today also leans toward the meaning of hidden danger: il n’est pire eau que l’eau qui dort, or “no water is worse than quiet water.” As already mentioned, however, the phrase has since lost this connotation and come to mean those who are quiet are often very complex and interesting. ![]() Of course, this meaning makes good sense, too, as placid, calm water may seem safe on the surface, but what lies below is often deep and thus dangerous territory. The fable expressed the same earlier interpretation of the expression: Those with little to say can pose a big threat. In the late 1400s, the proverb was expanded into a short fable (and was then later included in European collections of the renowned Aesop’s fables). It may have been first used in English around 1400.Īlthough today the saying is used to mean that quiet people are often much more interesting and intelligent than they may seem, it was once used to suggest that those who are calm and placid can be dangerous. The expression we know and use today appears to have evolved, according to The Concise Oxford Dictionary of Proverbs, from a Latin phrase popular in classical times: altissima quaeque flumina minimo sono labi, which translates to “the deepest rivers flow with least sound.” This earliest version can be found in a history of Alexander the Great by Quintus Rufus Curtius, suggesting its Bactrian origin. When you come across still water, there’s typically a lot more going on under the surface than is discernible: When the water appears peaceful and undisturbed, it is usually quite deep it often extends far below the surface, into dark and mysterious territory. Thinking about it in these ways-what is hidden, exterior versus interior-the comparison to a body of water makes good sense. In other words, the phrase describes people who have more going on internally than is apparent externally. Their placid manner hides a subtle nature, or a complexity that is not immediately clear and obvious. As you likely guessed from the introduction, the phrase still waters run deep is used to say that people with shy, reserved dispositions are often very profound, passionate, and intelligent underneath their calm, quiet demeanors-with many interesting ideas and thoughts.
